What is a drone?
A drone is a UAV, or unmanned aerial vehicle. It is essentially a flying robot.
Are drone shows legal?
Drone shows are regulated by the FAA and are legal, provided that the operator has the correct FAA license and an FAA waiver allowing the control of multiple drones at night in the national airspace. Some areas, such as national parks and national forest, do not allow drones. Many cities and towns have their own drone permitting process as well.
How far can drones fly?
Drones can fly long distances, but how far depends upon the type of drone. A consumer level DJI drone can fly up to 4 miles while keeping radio contact with the drone operator. However, long-fixed wing drones can fly much farther from their operator and maintain communications.
How do you become a drone pilot?
The best place to start is with your country’s regulatory authority. Try to get as much information as you can about the process for getting a license, as well as the costs. Then, start studying. You’ll need to have a good understanding of the national airspace. Many countries allow you to fly recreationally before you are a commercial operator, so you can also take this time to start practicing your skills on a small consumer drone.

What is a drone light show?
A drone light show is a swarm of drones that fly in a formation, directed by a ground station using precise RTK measurements to keep the drones in a constant location. Drone light show swarms can be programmed to be in excess of 1,000 drones, and perform such things as dances, light effects, animations, and much more.
How long is a drone show?
A drone show is a 10-15 minute long performance. The drones take about 60 seconds to reach their “first position” where the show will start. This is typically between 200 and 400 feet off of the ground. They also take another 30-60 seconds to return to the ground once the choreographed portion of the drone show is completed.
How high can drones fly?
In most countries, including the United States, drones are allowed to operate inside of Class G airspace up to 400 feet above the ground, unless other waivers are granted by the regulatory authority.
Are drone shows safe?
Drone shows, by comparison to fireworks, are incredibly safe. There have only been several incidents with drone light shows resulting in injury, whereas fireworks injure 1,000s of people a year.
