How to Add a Drone Show to Your County Fair or Festival

County fairs and festivals are some of the fastest-growing bookings for drone shows. They need a headline act that draws a crowd after dark, and a growing number of organizers are finding fireworks harder to justify.

Why Fairs Are Switching From Fireworks

  • Livestock. Fairgrounds are full of animals. Fireworks frighten them; drones are close to silent.
  • Fire risk. Late-summer fair season is peak fire season across much of the country. Drones carry no explosives.
  • No cleanup. Nothing falls on the grandstand, the midway or the barns.
  • Sponsor visibility. A drone show can put a sponsor’s logo in the sky. Fireworks cannot.

Make It Pay for Itself With Sponsorship

Because drones can form logos, many fairs sell the show as a sponsorship. A presenting sponsor gets its mark in the sky in front of the whole fair, which can offset a large share of the cost. Tell us about sponsors early so we can build their logo into the design.

Where It Fits in the Schedule

Most fairs run the show once darkness falls, often right after a grandstand event so the crowd is already seated. Multi-night shows are common too; once the crew is on site, additional nights cost far less than the first.

The Site

Grandstands and arenas are ideal because seating is fixed and sightlines are clear. We need a launch area separated from the public, and we survey the grounds in advance to plan the flight zone and crowd distance.

Permits and Airspace

Every show we fly is authorized under FAA rules and flown by Part 107 certified pilots. We handle the airspace work. Your part is usually coordinating with the fair board, local fire authority and venue.

Book Early

Fair season is short and crowded, and summer weekends fill first. Sixty to ninety days out is comfortable; for July and August dates, earlier is better.

A Show Fairgoers Remember

We have flown the Douglas County Fair in Colorado, and it is a good example of why fairs rebook: a drone show gives a fair a closing moment people talk about. We fly across the country, with drone show rental covering fleet, crew, insurance and production.
